Facials paced to the weather

Lavender is a skin studio of two licensed estheticians on Aspen Avenue. High, dry air and strong sun change how skin feels from month to month, so every facial follows the season.

Season by season

What the weather does to skin, and how we pace the facial

At 7,000 feet the air holds little water and the sun is strong. Each season has its own facial, and its own pace.

  • The sun rising through the bare branches of a tree in morning mist
Dec to Feb · 75 min

    Winter facial

Cold, wind and heated rooms leave skin feeling tight and rough, and snow glare adds to a day on the slopes. We slow down: warm towels, a longer massage and a richer mask.

  • Sunlight through tall forest trees onto a gravel path lined with ferns
Mar to May · 60 min

    Spring facial

Wind picks up, pollen arrives and the sun climbs before skin is ready for it. A lighter facial with a calming mask, and a talk about sunscreen as the days lengthen.

  • A grassy two-track road running through a sunlit pine forest
Jun to Aug · 45 min

    Summer facial

Long days on trails and patios at 7,000 feet, with strong sun and little moisture in the air. A shorter, cooler facial: gentle cleansing, a cooling mask and a light finish.

  • A path covered in fallen leaves under arching yellow trees
Sep to Nov · 60 min

    Fall facial

Cool mornings, dry afternoons and a summer of sun to take stock of. A steady facial with a light exfoliating step, to ready skin for the cold months.

Men's skin

Skin that works outdoors gets the same care

The shave-day facial is for men and is paced around shave day and sun: warm towels, cleansing, a mask and a short routine you will keep. It is booked and done like any other facial, in the same quiet room.

  • Warm towels and cleansing first

  • Care planned around shaving

  • A short routine of two or three steps

Your estheticians

Two estheticians, one quiet studio

  • Gisel Hermosillo, an esthetician in a white smock over a black top, leaning on a studio counter beside a small tray and a plant

    Gisel Hermosillo

    Esthetician and owner

    • Esthetician license · AZ Lic. 000000

Gisel grew up in Flagstaff and opened Lavender for neighbors who spend their days on trails, slopes and job sites. She plans each facial around the season and writes a short note of how your skin was, so the next visit starts there. She is in Tuesday to Friday.

  • Karissa Gleason, an esthetician with an auburn bob in a grey cardigan, standing in a treatment-room doorway with a window and plants behind her

    Karissa Gleason

    Esthetician

    • Esthetician license · AZ Lic. 000000

Karissa came up from the Valley and works the same way: ask first, then slow down. Many of her clients are runners and cyclists, and she sees most of our shave-day facials. She is in Thursday to Saturday.

What clients say

  • “I come in once a season now. The winter visit, with the warm towels, is the one I look forward to.”

    Dana R.
  • “They asked what I do all day before they touched my face. I spend it on a bike, and it showed in how they planned the visit.”

    Colin P.
  • “Nobody rushed me, and I left knowing what to put on before a day outside.”

    Marisol T.
